Welcome my autumn melody!
Oh, Autumn! Thy untrodden paths contain
Majestic mysteries, by silence sealed.
Thou’rt followed by dance of leaves, insane;
And hold a cup with saddened beauty filled.
My love, thine eyes, they hold the wistful gaze
When Nature thou touch with loving care.
Thy melancholy an’ thy charm amaze,
But what a heavy burden thou bear!
Yet sweetly thou smile an' thy hands are full
With splendid harvest of undying dreams.
Thou paint trees brightly, and on the ground, dull,
A ray of summer through the sombre clouds gleams.
Soon sorrow occupy the place of mirth
For endowed with thy tears heavens weep;
The drops of rain are falling on the earth,
Thou’rt preparing the world to winter sleep.
And thus my heart does sing, devoid of fear,
And whirl in this odd waltz of wither’d leaves
Forever! Autumn, I’m thine, forever, dear!
For thy winds do relive me from my grieves…
