Fantasia
[When lovely illusions and cherished hopes
Somewhere deep inside thee die
With autumn leaves so far away,
Thou set them free and let them fly.]
In every gust of wind and drop of rain
The voice of autumn is heard.
Forgotten shades of sorrow dwell
In tragedies of old.
In rustle of dead leaves songs have been lost
For nightingales are gone away.
In chilly air ghostly laments flow
While mists enfold the day.
And charms of light are shatter’d in the rain
Which imbues autumn mystery;
Behold these sombre starry nights,
Its bewitched harmony!
Let dreams take thee in their embraces,
Be lured by nocturnal lore,
Soon thou’ll hear someone whisper
The words thou adore…
