I love thee not
I love thee not
For I have waste all love in grief,
In vain were shed my silent tears.
Now I’m haunted by ghosts o’ fears,
My faith has wither’d leaf by leaf.
Forgive me, please,
But do not ask my heart to love thee,
And hide from me thy ardent passion!
Now I’m writing a confession;
The mirror of my doubts it will be.
But I do suffer
For my soul still lives in shadows of despair
And wanders sadly in the dark
Without love’s unearthly spark.
But to believe again I will not dare.
I close my eyes
For anguish’s tearing my soul apart
And mercy is forgotten there
How could the fate be so unfair,
To torture my defenseless heart?
I love thee not!
But when at last shall I be free?
Though may it be my dream, delusion
So lovely, sweet, desirable confusion
I’ll never let my soul love thee
